Foundation awards total of $10,550
The Cherokee County Community Foundation recently distributed grants totaling $10,550 to three nonprofit organizations in Cherokee County, including:
- $2,800 to the Cherokee County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse to establish a self-sustaining parenting education program which would provide parenting services for the citizens of Cherokee County;
- $2,750 to the Cherokee County Public Library to fund "Read to Me," a literacy project which provides new mothers who give birth at Upstate Carolina Medical Center a packet of gifts and library/literacy information, and;
- $5,000 to the Cherokee Pregnancy Center to provide the salary for a registered nurse who will oversee the medical conversion process.
Established 13 years ago as a permanent endowment, the Cherokee County Community Foundation benefits a wide range of charitable purposes. As an affiliate of Charlotte-based Foundation For The Carolinas, the Cherokee Foundation inspires philanthropy, increases charitable giving and strengthens the community.
