Accident leads to drug charges

A Blacksburg woman was arrested last week on drug charges at the scene of a traffic accident.

Gaffney Police Officer Michael Scruggs has charged Tracie Lynn McKinney, 39, of 401 Upper Deal St., Blacksburg, with possession of Xanax, possession of crack cocaine and driving under the influence.

According to reports at the Gaffney Police Department, the officer responded to a traffic accident Wednesday at 6 p.m. on Cherokee Avenue in Gaffney in one vehicle struck another from the rear.

While talking with McKinney, Scruggs said in the report that he "noticed her speech was very slurred and her balance was off." The officer gave her several sobriety tests and said she failed all of them.

McKinney was placed under arrest and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where she was given additional tests.

The report states that officers at the jail found three Xanax pills not prescribed to McKinney and a small plastic bag with contents believed to be crack cocaine.
