Term limits proposed

City Administrator James Taylor has proposed changing the term lengths for two of the city's commissions.

The city currently has a 2- term limit for members who serve on its boards and commissions. But Taylor told Gaffney City Council this week that he recommends exempting members of the City of Gaffney Planning Commission and Board of Appeals from that restriction.

Taylor said he was making the proposal because the state now requires that new members of the two boards to attend six hours of training. The state also mandates that members attend annual follow-up education courses.

Following Taylor's proposal, Gaffney City Council instructed its attorney to begin work on an ordinance that changes the term limits for the two commissions. Two readings and a public hearing are needed to amend a city ordinance.
