City in the dark on prospective tenants for strip malls
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

Although work continues on two new shopping centers, just who will occupy the thousands of square feet of retail space remains a mystery.

City Zoning Administrator Tony Lavender said city officials have yet to receive any plans from prospective tenants of the Gaffney Plaza or Peach Plaza.

Atlanta developer Pellerin & Salomon is building a strip mall on a 3.266-acre parcel between Wal-Mart and Pete's Restaurant.

The proposed Gaffney Plaza will include 7,700 square feet of retail space with an outparcel.

Phase 2, if built, would include another 7,700- square-foot retail center. A 90,869-square-foot retail center, including two anchor spaces, would be part of a third phase.

Lavender said the developer must make a few changes to its building plan before the city issues a permit.

Greenville-based Rhino Realty Fund is constructing a 40,000-square-foot shopping center on a five-acre parcel adjacent to Eckerd's.

The Peach Plaza will include a six-tenant strip mall and three outparcels. The existing Enterprise Car Rental and CheckMate are located on one of the outparcels.
