Assistant coach named new Saints' hoop boss

STAFF REPORTS

Limestone College alumnus Brandon Scott has been named head men's basketball coach at the school.

Scott, an assistant coach for the Saints last year, replaces Larry Epperly, who recently joined Mack McCarthy's men's basketball coaching staff at East Carolina University.

"I'm really excited about this opportunity," Scott said. "I've got some big shoes to fill. Coach Epperly did so much for the program in the last 10 years. I'm looking forward to the future of Limestone basketball. We should have a great year in 2007-08 since we've got good guys back and good recruits."

"I'm also excited to be working with assistant coaches Marquintus Jones and Terrell Smith," Scott added. "Both of them know the program inside and out and will be major assets in our recruiting efforts."

Scott was a four-year letterman for Limestone from 1995-99 and returned to the school last year after coaching high school basketball for eight seasons.

From 2004-06, Scott taught and coached at Leesburg High School in Leesburg, Fla.

As the varsity team's head coach, he guided the squad to an 18-8 record in 2005-06 and an appearance in the district semifinals, where the squad lost to the eventual state champion.

During the 2004-05 season, Scott led the team to a first-place finish in the district and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the state tournament, while finishing the year with a 19-10 record.

Before becoming the head coach for Leesburg High School's varsity squad, Scott was the head junior varsity coach and an assistant for the varsity team from 2001-04.
