VITA volunteers sought

Cherokee County is looking for volunteers interested in helping prepare tax returns under the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Volunteers are needed in Cherokee County to help prepare tax returns for people who cannot pay for tax help. Volunteers will prepare basic federal and state tax returns a few hours each week from January 11 through April 15. Volunteers do not prepare business returns or deal with complicated tax situations.

Training is available by IRS staff held locally or an option of self study on a web based product, etc.

Volunteers are needed to work two to four hours per week, at a designated site to be determined.

Individuals interested in volunteering or who would like more information about the VITA program should contact Trisha Gilliam at (803) 253-3089 or the Gaffney Senior Center at (864) 489-3868.
