GHS swimmer Brock Moss readies to enter the pool in preparation for Saturday's state meet. GHS swimmer Brock Moss readies to enter the pool in preparation for Saturday's state meet. Brock Moss will be in select company Saturday when he competes in the state meet at the Rock Hill Aquatic Center.

While he can only compete in two events, Moss still earned state qualifying times in five events. He will compete in the 200 individual medley and 100-meter breastroke at the state meet.

"My goal was to make it in the state meet in as many events as I can," Moss said. "I'm very pleased with what I've done."

Moss is hoping for at least a third place finish in the state meet. He feels confident a six-day workout regimen of swimming and lifting weights has prepared him for the challenge ahead.

"I feel a lot better about my opportunity to do well in the state meet this year," Moss said. "I have competed against many of the top swimmers. I have been in the atmosphere at Rock Hill before so I know what to expect."

Moss has been swimming since the sixth grade. He credits Gaffney High swim coach Jill Bramlett and Dr. Todd Morgan for helping him improve this season.

"I'm in the water year-round," Moss said. "I have always enjoyed swimming. I hope my hard work pays off."

Moss will wait until after the state swim meet to focus on his future. He plans to submit his best times to several college swimming teams in hopes of landing a scholarship.

Moss has taken his role as a senior leader seriously.

"I have tried to be a leader and help the younger kids," Moss said. "I wanted to help them get experience on the relay teams and get good times."
