Sorority meets Oct. 1; plans service projects

Xi Alpha Delta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Monday, Oct. 1, at the home of Shirley Turner. Pam Watson presented a program on friendship and family. Watson informed members that there is a National Friendship Day each year on the first Sunday of August. This year it was on Aug. 5.

After the program, members recited the opening ritual and grace then enjoyed refreshments provided by the host. The president, Libby Reed, called the meeting to order and welcomed a guest, Ann Fuller. Secretary Patti Greene called the roll and read minutes of the last meeting. Nine members answered with the Greek alphabet and the minutes were approved as read.

The president asked for reports from each committee and officers. There was a review of the chapter by-laws and a revision to Article H will be made and voted on at the next meeting. The vice-president, Billie Taylor, gave a report on membership. There were also reports on publicity and the scrapbook.

The service project for October will be the Alzheimer's Walk and candy for Meals on Wheels. Other service projects were discussed for November and December. A new addition to the yearbook will be address directions to each member's home.

Ways and Means reported a planned trip to the home of Tammy Clary to purchase gifts with a portion of the sales to go to the chapter's treasury. Members will attend the TLC dinner at First Baptist Church as the social for October. Other socials were planned for November and December.

Members were informed that the deadline to submit the chapter Valentine Sweetheart to international is Nov. 1. Members voted by secret ballot for their choice. Ruth Ann Ohlsen will count the votes and submit a write up and a photo of the winner to international. Patti Greene will submit a copy of the chapter's yearbook to international by Nov. 15.

With no further business to discuss each member shared pictures and mementos that represented what friendship and family means in their life. These included family and friends who are important and have special meaning to them.

At the close of the discussion members recited the closing ritual.

The next meeting of the organization will be at the home of member Ann Loftis on Nov. 5.
