WHAT'S UP Concerts The Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing at Limestone College in Fullerton Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the performance will be available at the door for $15. Season tickets for the Arts Council's entire program are still available either at the door or by contacting Mary Mosteller at 864-489-8621. The Cherokee County Public Library will serve-up another "Music Sandwiched-In" program on Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 12:15-1 pm. Featured performer will be musician Larry Comereski. The Friends of the Library will serve a free lunch. Community events Magnolia's Assisting Living, 228 Tiffany Park, will sponsor a Health Fair on Friday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Twenty different health groups will be on hand. Anyone may attend. Magnolia's will be opening its new unit. Support groups How to explain Alzheimer's and other dementias to children and teens is the topic of a support group meeting Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 5:30- 7 p.m. at Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care, 103 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby. The program will be presented by school counselors Janet McSwain of Boiling Springs, Becky Hill of Springmore and Janet Smith of Kings Mountain Intermediate. Senior events The Senior Center of Cherokee County will sponsor an AARP Safe Driving Course, Oct. 24-25 from 1-5 p.m. at the Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., Gaffney. There is a $10 fee for the course, which includes the class and workbooks. It is an 8-hour course, designed to refresh one's driving experience. To register contact Joan Wood, 864-487- 2725. Rutledge Ave. Fall festival Brookview HealthCare along with Hospice Care of South Carolina will have a Fall Festival on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 5-8 p.m. at 510 Thompson St. The festival is open to the public and there will be lots of free activities for everyone, including hay rides, face painting, bounce house, games, prizes and much more. A live band will be on hand to entertain and chili dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks, hot cider, cotton candy, popcorn and pumpkin pie will be available for purchase. Education The Cherokee County Adult/Community Education Program will offer a basic introduction to computer class beginning Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 5-8 p.m. Participants will learn file management, formatting techniques, cut and paste, graphics insertions and manipulations, and tables and formulas. Call 487-7152 or 487- 1209, to register. Red Cross events The American Red Cross is organizing teams of volunteers to be trained to be Disaster Assistance Team Members. DAT members respond to the scene of a disaster and offer Red Cross disaster recovery assistance to victims. The all-day training will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Brookview Healthcare Center, 510 Thompson St., in the conference room. The two-night training will be held Monday, Oct. 29, and Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 6-10 p.m. at the Cherokee County Red Cross building, 405 N. Logan St. Attendance both nights is required.
