CHESNEE - Catherine Collins Atkinson, 77, of 116 N. Cash Ave.,died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, while under the care of her son, and family stationed in Germany.

A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Huntley Atkinson to whom she was married for 34 years until his death in 1987. She was the daughter of the late Grover C. Collins and Annie Hamrick Collins.

Mrs. Atkinson was a member of State Line Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU, The Keenagers, Sunday School and the Chrismon Club. She was retired from the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Mrs. Atkinson was a loving mother and homemaker who worked part-time in order to devote herself to her Lord Jesus and to her family. She was a member for 30 years of Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Charlotte until she moved back to Chesnee in 1996.

She is survived by Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Timothy Atkinson and wife, Peggy; a brother, Broadus Collins of Cowpens; a sister, Frances Harbaugh of Chesnee; two grandsons, John Atkinson and Joshua Atkinson; and by special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Atkinson was predeceased by a son, Steve Atkinson; two brothers, Arthur Collins and Charles Collins; and three sisters, Ruth McGinnis, Lucille Collins and Clara Mae Collins, all of Cherokee County.

Services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 3:30 p.m. at State Line Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Bolin and Chaplain Timothy Atkinson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee.
