Harold J. Gaffney

Retired from Union Butterfield

BLACKSBURG - Deacon Harold Junior Gaffney, 66, of 313 Seven Springs St., died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at his home.

A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Patricia Bradley Gaffney and son of the late Clyde Gaffney and the late Sarah Jane Burris Gaffney. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Freeman Gaffney.

He was a graduate of Granard High School and member of Galilee Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. A member of the Blacksburg All Male Chorus, NAACP and Blacksburg Zoning Committee, he was retired from Union Butterfield.

Also surviving are two sons, Troy Gaffney (Brett) of Moore and Craig Gaffney of Blacksburg; a daughter, Marilyn L. Gaffney of the home; reared as a son, Julius Clyde T. Tennell of Shelby; four grandchildren and two nieces.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Les Howell and Dr. Michael L. Bridges. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at noon.
