Sheriff looking for a few good reserves

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for an upcoming Reserve Deputy training session. The Reserve Deputy Program is an intensive training course that allows interested persons to become volunteer deputies.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputy Training Program includes instruction on firearms, laws of arrest, searches and seizures, evidence, crisis intervention, officer survival, ethics, constitutional law, local ordinances and policies, radio communications, handling prisoners, handling juveniles and human relations.

The class is held two nights per week and includes some weekend training, for a total of approximately 140 hours. After successful completion, Reserve Deputies are assigned to a full time Deputy for field training for a minimum of 240 hours. Reserve Deputies are required to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours per month to maintain employment.

All interested persons may pick up an application at the Sheriff's Office located in the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center or download an application from our website.
