Joe Jolly
WINNSBORO - Joe Dean Jolly, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at his home.
Son of the late B. Bartow and Cleo Murphy Godfrey Jolly, he was born on Dec. 3, 1924, in Gaffney. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School, and after military service, he graduated from Clemson A&M College, where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired
as plant engineer
from Uniroyal Inc. after 30 years of service and was a member of First Baptist Church of Winnsboro.
Mr. Jolly was very active in his church and community. At First Baptist, he served as a deacon, chairman of the building committee when the church was relocated, and as a Sunday School teacher for 30 years. He was past vice-president of the Jaycees, past president of the Civitan Club, a Mason of Granard Lodge 186 in Gaffney, a member of the Lions Club, and commander of Post 16 of the American Legion. He was also involved in many community recreation services.
His professional associations included serving as past president of the American Institute of Plant Engineers Columbia Chapter and held membership in the American Society of Professional Engineers. He was a registered Professional Engineer in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.
Mr. Jolly is survived by his wife, Martha Frances Phillips Jolly of the home; three sons, Robert Jolly of Winnsboro, Tracy Jolly of Lexington and Martin Jolly of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jolly was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Jolly.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Winnsboro with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Pope Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Bus Fund, P.O. Box 59, Winnsboro, S.C. 29180.
