Gaffney High broadcasting students Craig Sanders and Kaleb McDaniel are working on a yearlong project to forever capture football life at "The Reservation."

The students are asking local residents and former football players to share their memories about games played in W.K. Brumbach Stadium. Pictures and footage from old football games will be woven into a documentary the students plan to finish in May of 2008.

"This will be an hour-long film to pay tribute to 'The Reservation'," said Sanders, who is currently involved in a paid internship at Channel 4 in Greenville. "We would like to talk with players, coaches and fans from different decades about their experiences at Gaffney High football games."

The stadium was a Work Progress Administration project funded through a New Deal federal initiative of president Franklin Roosevelt during The Great Depression. The stadium opened in 1937 and was later named in honor of longtime football team physician W.K. Brumbach.

Stadium history, old games and stories about "The Reservation" are all important events that the students plan to highlight in their documentary.

One thing that has surprised Sanders is the reaction students and residents have about leaving "The Reservation."

"The older fans I have talked to feel the school has outgrown the stadium and it's time to build a new one," Sanders said. "The high school students feel 'The Reservation' is sacred ground and we should hold onto that tradition. This is the opposite of what I expected."

Sanders and McDaniel hope to gain additional insight while continuing their stadium research for the documentary. Anyone who would like to share their memories for the documentary can contact Gaffney High teacher Julie Bowman at 902-3600; or email Sanders at: muzicwise2362@ yahoo.com.
