Colorado organization pays tribute to Ola Copeland

Dear Editor:

The Rocky Mountain Roses (Chapter of The Red Hat Society) in Arvada, Colorado, declared Saturday, Oct. 20 as an Ola Copeland holiday.

Ola was an honorary member of the chapter. Her friend, Linda Bridges from Gaffney, introduced Ola to the chapter two years ago. Although the members of the chapter never met her in person, they sent her cards and letters on special occasions. They presented her with a big red hat via her friend. She proudly wore her hat for all to see. She enjoyed being a part of the chapter.

The chapter admired her courage for serving her community by being active on the school board and for her work in her church and the Democratic Party in spite of her illness. She never gave up.

She lived her life in servitude. She was never too busy to visit the schools in Cherokee County. She wanted the children in Cherokee County to receive the best education possible.

The Rocky Mountain Roses celebrated the Ola Copeland Holiday by taking an overnight trip to Estes Park, a place Ola had planned to visit some day. They toasted Ola at the meal times and talked about her greatness. Her spirit was felt among the group. She did visit after all.

Ola will never be forgotten by her friends in Colorado. She touched lives of the Rocky Mountain Roses as she did in her hometown.
