Louise Davis Vehorn

Former employee of Southern Bell Telephone Company and former co-owner of Crafts- Vehorn Realty in Union

SPARTANBURG - Louise Davis Vehorn of Spartanburg, a former resident of Gaffney and Union for many years, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born in McFarland, N.C., she was raised in Chesterfield and was the daughter of the late Luther Claude and Mary Edna Teal Davis. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family which included seven siblings.

Mrs. Vehorn was the widow of Robert Jackson "Bob" Vehorn. She was a former employee of Southern Bell Telephone Company and a former co-owner of Crafts- Vehorn Realty in Union.

A member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, Buford Street United Methodist in Gaffney and Grace United Methodist Church in Union, she held many church and civic positions, including the Salvation Army Board of Directors and the Union Chamber of Commerce.

As a member of the Union Chamber of Commerce, she held the distinction of being the first female to serve on the Board of Directors. She chaired the Downtown Union Committee and was instrumental in preserving many of the historical buildings as well as beautifying the downtown area.

Survivors include a son, Michael R. "Mickey" Vehorn and his wife, Brenda, of Cashiers, N.C.; two daughters, Jane V. Mahon and her husband, Mike, of Pawleys Island and Ellen V. Morris of Union; seven granddaughters, Laney Robinson and her husband, Robbie, of Charlotte, Julie Croxton of Beaufort, Amy Croxton of Orangeburg, Wesley M. Whitener and her husband, Tripp, of Columbia, Mary Gray Mahon of Pawleys Island, Molly Morris of Greenville and Katie Morris of Union; three great-grandchildren, Gray and Jake Whitener of Columbia and Gavin Lawson of Union; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David E. Nichols. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, Attn: SRHS Foundation Office, 101 E. Wood St. Spartanburg, S.C. 29303.
