Gaffney Middle rallies to down Granard

Savon Dukes scored from two yards out and Edward Bigby added the 2-point conversion as Gaffney Middle rallied to down crosstown rival Granard 22-18 to capture the Little Six Conference championship Saturday at Brumbach Stadium.

Gaffney Middle finishes the season at 7-0.

"Overall it was a great team effort," Gaffney Middle coach Brad Phillips said. "Our offensive line stepped up and our defense stepped up as the game went along."

Rod Ogelsby scored to put the Warriors on top before Chad Miller had an 8-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 6 at the half.

Granard regained the lead on a Ron Best touchdown run. But Gaffney Middle answered when Miller scored from 40- yards out and added a 2-pt. conversion to go on top 18-14.

The Warriors responded once again to take the lead on a touchdown reception from Joey Copeland to Ryan Frock.

But Dukes scored the gamewinner with 1:30 left to play to give Gaffney Middle the conference title.
