Dr. Brown returns to Gaffney to lead revival services at Cherokee Avenue

Joy Brown speaker at luncheon Nov. 6

Dr. Wayne Brown Dr. Wayne Brown Dr. Wayne Brown, a former pastor of West End Baptist Church, will be the visiting evangelist in revival services Nov. 4-7 at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church. Services will be Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Dr. Brown grew up in Blacksburg, where he attended the public schools before entering Limestone College. He made his profession of faith and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Blacksburg, where he also was ordained into the ministry. He earned his B.A. in Sociology/ Psychology from Limestone. While a student in college, he served as Minister of Music at Providence Baptist Church, where he also was licensed into the ministry.

Dr. Brown served as a student summer missionary in New Mexico and Arizona and on the staff of Glorieta Baptist Conference Center in New Mexico. He studied at the School of Pastoral Care at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem.

Having served churches in a variety of ministries in North Carolina, South Carolina and New Jersey, Dr. Brown now pastors the First Baptist Church in Boone, N.C.

Joy Clay Brown Joy Clay Brown Dr. Brown is married to the former Joy Clary. There will be a free luncheon with Mrs. Brown as the speaker on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at noon in the Family Life Center at Cherokee Avenue. Although there is no charge for the luncheon, the church requests that anyone planning to attend call the church office, 489-2568, to let them know so they can plan adequately for the lunch.

Mrs. Brown moved with her parents and sister to Gaffney at the age of five . She attended the public schools and graduated from Limestone College with a B.A. in Sociology. Mrs. Brown made her profession of faith and was baptized at East Gaffney Baptist Church. Her family began a mission church in Gaffney in their home on Cypress Drive. The church became Montgomery Street Baptist Church and was later named Central Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brown received a degree in Deaf Education from Converse College in Spartanburg and taught at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind in Cedar Springs. She also taught Language Arts and Special Education in North Carolina. She received a Master of Arts in Education from Coastal Carolina University and taught Remedial Reading at Horry County Technical College in Conway. She also has served on the staff of Ridgecrest Baptist Conference Center in Ridgecrest, N.C.

Mrs. Brown is part of a ministry team for women, Women by Design, and has authored, co-authored, or has been a contributing author for eight books.

The Browns have traveled nationally

and internationally sharing the gospel. In 2005, God fulfilled a calling

for the Browns as He led them to establish Diversified Ministries to increase missions awareness locally, nationally and globally, and to offer a ministry of encouragement through retreats and seminars for ministers, missionaries and their families. They also enjoy leading marriage enrichment retreats and seminars.

Dr. and Mrs. Brown have two daughters, Meri Beth Howard and Molly Howard.
