NAACP banquet Saturday

The Cherokee County NAACP will hold its 30th annual Freedom Fund banquet Saturday at 7 p.m. in Stephenson Dining Hall at Limestone College. Tickets are $25.

Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy is the keynote speaker. Upon her election in November of 2005, she became the youngest mayor in North Carolina.

Bellamy is currently employed by Mountain Housing Opportunities, a nonprofit organization that builds and renovates affordable housing for senior citizens and others in need.

She has successfully spearheaded an effort to receive the United States Department of Justice's Weed and Seed site designation for the West Riverside neighborhood. She was recognized by One Youth at a Time as their Volunteer of the Year for her work with disadvantaged youth.
