Boyd Jodie Spencer Sr., 81, of 324 Goldmine Rd., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 31, 2007, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Betty Jean Spencer and son of the late Thomas Spencer and Dora Ruth Spencer. He was retired from Gaffney Manufacturing Company and a member of Draytonville Baptist Church.

Also surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Boyd "Bud" Spencer Jr., J.R. Spencer and wife, Pam, and Danny Lee Spencer, all of Gaffney; a daughter, Martha Ann Cooper and husband, Tommy, of Gaffney; a brother, Walter Spencer of Gaffney; four sisters, Ellen Painter, Mamie Ruth Hill and Edna Earle Wilkie, all of Gaffney, and Ruby Parris of Blacksburg; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Conrad Spencer and J.G. Spencer; a sister, Catherine Painter; and two grandsons, Boyd Jodie Spencer III and Jason Spencer.

Services will be held Saturday, November 3, at 4 p.m. at Draytonville Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Ivey and Rev. Stuart Kersey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 4-6 at Blakely Funeral Home.

The family is at the residence.
