Renowned mystery writer Kathleen Delaney and several other famous authors of the same genre will be at the Cherokee County Public Library on Thursday for an hour-long mystery writers panel.

The panel, sponsored by the library and the "Carolina Conspiracy," a group of 21 mystery writers in North Carolina and South Carolina, was organized with the purpose of giving everyone involved a chance to meet and mingle with these famous authors.

"In the panel we are looking to stress the importance of writing and possibly expand the niche of mystery writing," Kenny Covington of the Cherokee County Public Library, said.

Readers will be able to talk about certain pieces of literature, having the opportunity to ask about what inspired the authors to write the book as well as the steps they took in making things happen. Attendees will also be able to have their books signed by the writers.

"This should be a very relaxed atmosphere, with the writers sharing their own personal stories about where they have been, who they have met and a wealth of other subjects," Covington said. "This will give the public a terrific chance to meet some of their favorite authors and learn about the process of writing."

Delaney, who is slated to be the keynote speaker at the event, has written three books since becoming a fulltime author a few years ago. One of those titles, "Dying for Change," was a finalist at the St. Martin's Malice Domestic Contest and was accepted for publication by Publish America.

Delaney resides in a 100- year old home located in the shadows of Limestone College in Gaffney. The author left a successful career in real estate while in California to continue her dream of putting her thoughts into print.

In addition to being able to meet the writers, those in attendance will also be able to eat with them as the library will serve sandwiches and drinks at the program.

While he hopes a free lunch will help lure people to the event, Covington believes the library is very fortunate to have been able to land writers such as Delaney and those making the trip to Gaffney on Thursday.

"I hope the mystery buffs will take advantage of this opportunity and help the county welcome these terrific writers," Covington said. "We really feel lucky to have gotten them."

The hour-long event begins at noon Nov. 8 at the library located at 300 Rutledge St. For more information, call the library at 487-2711.
