Ledger photo by CODY SOSSAMON Ledger photo by CODY SOSSAMON CHEROKEE PINEAPPLES? - Christine Hyder of Gaffney, grew this pineapple from a cutting she got from a local grocery store. "I had heard you could grow them, but thought I'd only get the plant," she said. "And that's all I got for three years. But earlier this summer I noticed a small yellow fruit developing and here's proof you can grow pineapples in Gaffney." Hyder said she's not a green thumb and grew the pineapple in a pot with regular potting soil, which she leaves out in her yard during the warmer months which she brings inside for the winter. Now that she's been successful, what will she do? "It's gotten so big, (3-feet tall) I'll probably just leave it out and see what happens."
