Mr. Football making big impression

      South Carolina State Bulldog fans got a glimpse of their quarterback of the future on Saturday. And former Gaffney High star Malcolm Long didn't disappoint. In his most extended playing time of the season, Long earned honorable mention honors from the MEAC after completing 5 of his 8 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns against Howard.

Gaffney to inject more speed into its offense

      Gaffney coach Phil Strickland knows a thing or two about winning football games - and it especially shows in the playoffs. That's likely the reason Strickland said Tuesday that quarterback David Dewberry will return to his tight end position to improve the team's blocking.

Inexperienced Wildcats will face challenging schedule this season

      In a preseason coaches vote, the Blacksburg boys basketball team was picked to finish last in the region. The Wildcats will get the chance to prove those coaches wrong against a challenging schedule that includes the Gaffney Indians, Union, Christ Church and Landrum.

Schilling signs with Sox

      ORLANDO, Fla. - Curt Schilling and the Boston Red Sox reached a preliminary agreement on an $8 million, one-year contract that will allow the star right-hander to return next season to the World Series champions. The agreement provides for him to make an additional $5 million in bonuses and match his 2007 salary.
