Boy Scouts go door-to-door Nov. 10-13 for annual food drive

2007-11-12 / Local News

Scouting for Food is Scouting's community stewardship project aimed at addressing the problem of hunger in the community in which we live and work.

Scouting for Food is a food collection effort carried out by Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from your community. Scouts will go house to house and deliver door hangers on November 10 - 13 explaining the scouting for food project. Food items will be collected on November 17 between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

The food items, paper products, etc. will then be counted and delivered to local food pantries for the homeless and other local agencies that feed the needy.

Scouting for Food is a project rooted in the very foundation of the Scouting movement. Through initiative and hard work, the Boy Scouts have developed a framework that can help local food pantries feed tens of thousands of needy local residents with emergency aid.

It is up to the people of our community to make Scouting for Food a success. The Scouting for Food Campaign will continue to bring Scout units closer to their Chartered Organizations and communities by focusing their food campaign efforts on a pantry in their immediate area.

Because of the small number of scouts in Cherokee County, we can not possibly put door hangers or collect food from everyone. Due to this, we will have a drop-off collection site open on Saturday, November 17 in the parking lot of Meals on Wheels in Gaffney. If you do not receive a door hanger and would like to donate can goods or paper products, please bring them by the Meals on Wheels office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on November 17.
