Finance Committee not ready to announce new assistant administrator

The Cherokee County Finance Committee apparently isn't ready just yet to name the county's new assistant administrator.

The committee was expected to give its recommendation at last Monday's council meeting. But that did not occur.

The finance committee met finalists face-to-face for the first time during a series of interviews Oct. 22-23. The committee then met Nov. 30 to review the candidates.

Cherokee County Interim Administrator Ben Clary said there is no timetable for the committee to make its recommendation.

"It's a just a matter pending," Clary said. "They will eventually reach a decision."

The finalists include Steven Bratton, who is employed at First Piedmont Federal; Cherokee County Building Department employee Mason Harris; Blacksburg's Kelvin Sizemore, who is retired from the United States Armed Forces; Landrum's J. Holland Belue, who is employed by Spartanburg County; and Greenville's Dawn Wichmann, who works for Greenville County.

They were selected from among 32 applicants.

According to the advertisement for the position, applicants must have a bachelor's degree in business, public administration or a related field. The county also wants applicants with five years of government experience.

Finance Committee Chairman Charles Mathis said a salary for the new employee has yet to be determined.
