Myrtle B. Taylor
BLACKSBURG - Myrtle Bell Taylor, 93, formerly of 129 Batchelor Drive, Blacksburg, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at Brookview HealthCare Center in Gaffney.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Eddie Carlton Taylor and daughter of the late Edward M. and Mary Louise Johnson Hambright Bell Sr. She was a faithful member of Blacksburg Church of God, where she served during her Christian walk as a Sunday School teacher, member of the church choir, YPE president and president of the Ladies' Auxiliary. She also played many musical instruments for the church. She was a homemaker and retired from Burlington Mills in 1983.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her loving children, a son, Gene E. Taylor Sr. and wife, Billie, of Gaffney, and three daughters, Norma T. Barrett of Shelby, Shirley T. Ranke and husband, Donald, of Peach Tree City, Ga., and Flora T. Smith and husband, John, of Cashiers, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward M. Bell Jr. of Kings Mountain, N.C.; and two sisters, Edna Devine of Blacksburg and Luna Mae White of Gaffney.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles E. Bell and Warren D. (W.D.) Bell; two stepbrothers, Harley Hambright and Fred Hambright; and a stepsister, Alma Hambright Guest.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at White Columns and at other times they will be at the home of her son at 108 Maple Drive in Gaffney.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 1:30 p.m. at Blacksburg Church of God with the Rev. James Clark and Dr. Clyde Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Glen Patterson, Cass Davis, Donald Ranke, Stacy Barrett, Kevin Devine and Trey Barton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Ranke, Eddie Taylor, Doug Phillips, Robert Patterson, John Smith, Jackie Guest, Glenn Bell, Edward Blackwell, Jim Wilson and Bill Scruggs.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Taylor may be remembered with memorials to Blacksburg Church of God Building Fund, 607 W. Cherokee Ave., P.O. Box 750, Blacksburg, S.C. 29702; or to the Smoky Mountain Children's Home, 449 McCarn Circle, Sevierville, TN 37862. Both were very dear to her heart.
