Habitat given extension to complete homes

      Habitat for Humanity of Cherokee County now has more time to complete five homes and still satisfy the terms of a $375,000 infrastructure grant. The organization was facing a Dec. 31 deadline to finish the homes in its Hope Acres subdivision. The homes are now expected to be finished by the end of June.

Commission making plans for change of trustee election date

      Cherokee County School Board members will be in the unfamiliar position of running for election at the same time as city council members next year. School board chairman Donnie Lee Smith is up for re-election along with board members Sandra Greene, Willie Crosby and Billy Blackwell.

BPW gets $1M grant to upgrade water plant

      Some federal funds will be flowing the Gaffney Board of Public Works' way. An appropriations bill passed by Congress last week contained $1 million for the utility to upgrade its water plant, U.S. Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) announced Friday.

Driver gassed up twice and not paying tab was big mistake
      A Cowpens man stopped for an alleged gas drive-off Wednesday night was charged with drunk driving and a gas drive-off from earlier in the month. Richard Scott Moss, 44, smelled of alcohol when stopped by a Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy responding to a gas drive-off on Hyatt Street. Moss admitted drinking but later refused a breath test, police said.
