U.S. Army veteran of World War II

MCCONNELLS - Robert Edward Lee Blackwell, 84, of 336 Naturewoods Road, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel with the Revs. Rick Sturgis and Mike Shaffer officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial on Cherry Road.

A native of Cherokee County, Mr. Blackwell was a son of the late William Carson Blackwell and the late Minnie Mae Bright Blackwell. He was a carpenter, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Cossette Fincher.

Mr. Blackwell is survived by a son, Edward Blackwell of York; three daughters, Kathleen B. Hunter of Rock Hill, Margaret B. Berry and Vanessa B. Hinson, both of McConnells; a sister, Madeline Weathers of Lincolnton, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and two step great-greatgrandchildren.

Visitation was held Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel in Rock Hill. The family is at the home.
