Blacksburg town administrator, VFD chief dies unexpectedly Saturday at his home BLACKSBURG - Danny McDaniel, 51, of 604 W. Lime St., died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at his home. Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Susan Patterson McDaniel and son of Betty Jean Lanier McDaniel of Blacksburg and the late Harold Dean McDaniel. He was Administrator of the Town of Blacksburg and a 31- year member of the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief for 18 years. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two sons, Kevin McDaniel of Cowpens and D.J. McDaniel of the home; three daughters, Kelly Childers and husband, Roger, of Blacksburg, Taylor Cooper and Natalie Bright of the home; a brother, Roger McDaniel of Blacksburg; and grandchildren, Austin McDaniel of Shelby, Dillon Ramsey, Kayla Ramsey and Bradley Childers of Blacksburg. Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Broad River Baptist Church, conduced by the Revs. Dennis Hester and Danny Marshburn. Burial will be in Mountainview Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Michael Smiley, Darren Lanier, Joe Whitener Sr., Richie Pennington, Danny Blackwell and Mike Mullinax. Honorary pallbearers will be firemen and employees of the Town of Blacksburg. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8:30 at Gordon Mortuary and at other times they will be at the residence and also at the home of his mother, Betty McDaniel, 106 S.
