77-year-old Blacksburg homeowner shoots at burglary suspects A Blacksburg homeowner fired three shots while two burglary suspects were running from his home at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office states. Police have charged R.J. Osborne, 19, and his brother, Ronald Franklin Osborne Jr., 20, both of 103 Maxine Lane, Blacksburg, each with 2nddegree burglary. They remain at the Cherokee County Detention Center pending bond hearings. Deputies responded to a home at 470 Burnt Mill Road, Blacksburg, after the 77-yearold homeowner reported to police that he came home and found two people inside the residence, the report states. Police said the intruders attempted to steal a television, VCR, and food. Suspects lead police on chase A shoplifting call at the Dollar General, 1309 W. Floyd Baker Blvd., Gaffney, led to a police chase that covered approximately three miles and began at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states. Vashon Ward Sarratt, 32, of 705 Davis St., Gaffney, is charged with shoplifting and Tyson Jerrard Sarratt, 19, of Boiling Springs, is charged with reckless driving. While Officer Tommy Kennedy of the Gaffney Police Department was responding to the Dollar General, he saw a black BMW that a shoplifting suspect had used to flee from the store. When Kennedy turned his patrol car around to follow the vehicle, the BMW driver turned onto Marion Avenue and continued to lead police on a three-mile chase. The driver pulled over at a daycare facility on Providence Road, where the passenger, identified by police as Sarratt, jumped from the vehicle and fled. He was apprehended a short time later by other city and county police units. Kennedy continued to pursue the vehicle for another quarter of a mile before Sarratt stopped the car and surrendered. Police said $176 in clothing was stolen from the store. Warrant served on man in jail A Gaffney man has been arrested for allegedly stealing merchandise from Bi-Lo, 1013 W. Floyd Baker Blvd., Gaffney, on Jan. 7. Officer J.S. Blackwell of the Gaffney Police Department has charged Richard Pete Wood, 43, of 417 Suez St., Gaffney, with third or subsequent offense shoplifting. Wood has been at the Cherokee County Detention Center since Jan. 7 after being ticketed for shoplifting, but was served Tuesday with a new warrant after authorities discovered he had prior shoplifting convictions, police said. Wood has also been served with a Family Court bench warrant. Gaffney man faces drug charge Police seized approximately 6.5 grams of marijuana from a Gaffney man at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office states. Agent Jerry Smith of the Cherokee County Metro Narcotics Unit has charged Thomas Arnold Gregory, 27, of 206 Third Ave., Gaffney, with 2nd or subsequent offense simple possession of marijuana. Gregory was at a residence at 204 Oak Street in Gaffney when he was arrested. He had the bag of marijuana in his right front pants pocket, the report states. Man charged with leaving the scene Gaffney Police Officer Brian Blanton has charged William Thomas Allen Jr. of 1171 W. Rutledge Ave., Gaffney, with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. According to an arrest warrant at the Gaffney Police Department, Allen left the scene of a traffic accident Monday without providing authorities with the information required. The warrant was served Tuesday. |
