Two women caught using bogus travelers checks Two Massachusetts women were arrested after they allegedly went on a shopping spree with counterfeit American Express travelers checks. Officers with the Gaffney Police Department charged Virginia Ann Johnson, 20, of Boston, and Sydney Lerai Davis, 21, of Dorchester with three counts of forgery each. Officer John Fuller responded to Prime Outlets - Gaffney at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report that the women were using counterfeit travelers checks for their purchases, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states. Police said they located Johnson and Davis in the Bombay Company store. The women are accused of using counterfeit checks to purchase a six-pack of socks and a pair of shorts worth $23 from Nike, a pair of shoes worth $22 from Bass Outlet and four bottles of lotion and a travel bag worth $32 from Bath and Body Works. Police said they seized $229 in cash and $300 in counterfeit travelers checks from the women. You've got to use your turn signal A Gaffney man was arrested after he failed to use his turn signal at 1:46 a.m. Thursday, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states. Officer Ronnie Anderson of the Gaffney Police Department has charged James Harold Dukes, 31, of 607 Holmes St., Gaffney, with 3rd-offense driving under suspension and displaying a license plate on the wrong vehicle. Anderson stopped Dukes' 1999 Chevy Suburban at Peeler and Short Peeler streets. SUV stolen from ER parking lot A 2003 silver Lincoln Navigator SUV belonging to Physical Therapy Inc., 1445 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, has been reported stolen. Joe McKowen reported the vehicle stolen at 11 a.m. Wednesday, police said. A man was seen getting into the vehicle and leaving the emergency room parking lot at Upstate Carolina Medical Center, 1530 N. Limestone St., Gaffney. The vehicle's doors were unlocked and the key had been left inside. Man faces several charges A man with a suspended driver's license also faces drug charges, according to a report at the Gaffney Police Department. Officer Ronnie Anderson of the Gaffney Police Department has charged Adion Kamal Camp, 23, of 326 E. Floyd Baker Blvd., Gaffney, with 2nd-offense driving under suspension, possession of marijuana and an open container violation. Anderson stopped Camp's red 1998 Jeep at 12:15 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Oliver and West Buford streets. According to the report, Camp told the officer he did not have a driver's license. When Camp exited his vehicle, Anderson said he saw him drop a plastic bag containing four grams of marijuana on the floor of the vehicle. An open beer was in the vehicle's cup holder, the report states. But did he put the seat down? Police have charged a Gaffney man with indecent exposure after he admitted he relieved himself on a woman's front steps, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states. Craig L. Young, 22, of 201 Chandler Drive, Gaffney, is accused of urinating and defecating on the 22-year-old woman's steps at Limestone Courts Apartments on May 23 after Young and the woman got into an argument. The woman's mother also witnessed the incident, the report states. Officers Johnny Miller and Ronnie Anderson of the Gaffney Police Department located Young a few days later and questioned him about the incident. Young admitted he urinated on the steps but denied the rest of the allegations, according to the report. Car's paint job led to charge A man driving a 1975 Chevy painted like a snake was arrested at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, a report at the Gaffney Police Department states. Officer Mike Scruggs of the Gaffney Police Department has charged Billy Dee Rodgers, 27, of 422 Indian Hill St., Gaffney, with 2nd-offense driving under suspension. Scruggs said he noticed Rodgers driving the vehicle and stopped him after he pulled into a driveway on Hetty Hill Street. Rodgers told the officer his license was suspended, police said. Back yard not a good hiding place A stolen vehicle was located in the back yard of a Gaffney man's home, a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office states. Kenneth Wayne Thrift, 58, of 726 Dillon St., Gaffney, is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. Police found the 1996 Jeep Cherokee in Thrift's back yard at 10:30 a.m. June 2, the report states. The vehicle, which had damage to the steering column and the ignition switch, was reported stolen to the Chesnee Police Department, police said. |
