Peach Festival organizers looking for a parade grand marshall
By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Staff Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

The South Carolina Peach Festival is still looking for a grand marshall as preparations continue for this year's parade.

The festival will mail out 500 letters next week to Chamber of Commerce members with information about the parade, event chairperson T.J. Huggin said. The festival plans to announce a grand marshall in the next couple of weeks.

This year's parade will be held July 14 at 10 a.m. in downtown Gaffney. The parade will begin at Railroad Avenue and disband at Thomson Park on Limestone Street.

"We have changed the route from last year to cut down on downtown traffic around the Family Fun Day that will begin immediately after the parade," Huggin said. "We hope this will be the best parade in all of the Peach Festival's 31 years."

Last year's parade featured more than 100 units including floats, marching bands, high steppers and local and state officials.

The parade will lead into the city's second annual Family Fun Day with arts and crafts, antique tractors, free children's rides and entertainment. The Scoot Pittman Band, iCande and Ninety-nine Cent Band will perform.

Parade entry forms will be available on the festival's Web site at www.scpeachfestival. org.

Entry forms should be returned by July 6. Mail to: South Carolina Peach Festival, Inc.; P.O. Box 549, Gaffney, SC 29342.
