A. C. Long
Co-founder of Shrimp Boat

A.C. Long, 82, of 133 Lakeside Lane, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late John F. Long and Emily Elizabeth Jolley Long and Lula Jolley Cash. He was the loving husband of Freda Peek Long for 60 years. Mr. Long was a former Independent Life Insurance Company representative and former butcher at Brown's Market. Along with his son, Craig, he began the business known as the Shrimp Boat. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant in the United States Army. He was in the infantry and served at the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Long was a member of East Gaffney Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, also surviving are a son, Craig Long and wife, Beth, of Gaffney; two daughters, Rita L. Phillips and husband, Gene, of Gaffney and Deborah L. Greene and husband, John, of Surfside; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert Cash and Dugar Cash.

A special thanks is extended to the staff of Peachtree Centre where Mr. Long was a resident for five years. During that time he made many friends and enjoyed sharing time with them as they watched Braves baseball.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30-2 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., immediately following the visitation, and will be held in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Dr. Wayne Brown and Dr. Clyde Thomas. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens with full military rites by the South Carolina State Guard.

Pallbearers will be Brad Phillips, Scott Jolley, Phil Greene, Chris Greene, Troy Greene, Jonathan Greene, Curtis Long, Chris Sutton and Craig Waites.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Millwood and Edwin Ware.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Gaffney Baptist Church, Family Life Center, 2308 Cherokee Ave., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

The family will be at the residence.
