ATV found abandoned
By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Staff Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

A machete and torch tip were among the items found Friday on an all-terrain vehicle that authorities said had been abandoned for two days.

Cherokee County Sheriff's Office deputies impounded a green Honda Recon ATV vehicle after it was located near Tindall Mill Road. The vehicle was found by police between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m.

A bag on the ATV contained a machete, ammo canister, two sets of bolt cutters and cell phones, an air pump, map gas and a torch tip, according to an incident report on file at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Police also found a 20 inch hemp rope and a pair of rubber gloves.

All the tools and accessories were found in a red tote bag, the incident report states.

Police were unsuccessful in their efforts to locate the ATV owner with numbers in the cell phones recovered from the tote bag.

While passing the scene, Jeremy Nance told sheriff's deputy J.P. Harris that the hemp rope was on a 4-wheeler that was stolen two days ago from his White Plains Road residence.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incidents.
