Library director to attend national conference

Lana Gardner, director of the Cherokee County Public Library, has been selected to attend the American Library Association's annual conference in Washington, D.C.

Gardner will serve a one of three South Carolina representatives attending the Rural Library Sustainability Forum this month. This forum will bring together over 150 rural librarians from around the country to discuss challenges, strategies and opportunities for the future of libraries in rural communities.

The forum is a culmination of the Rural Library Sustainability Project built by over 4,000 rural library staffs from around the country. WebJunction, an online community for library staff, partnered with stage library agencies on the project which is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

In addition to the forum, Gardner will be attending other sessions and events at the conference that includes more than 2,300 meetings, discussion groups and programs on various topics affecting libraries and librarians and is attended by more than 18,000 librarians, educators, writers, publishers and other guests.
