BRIEFS camp championship The Granard Warriors' rising 7th & 8th grade team captured the Gardner-Webb University middle school team camp basketball championship on Sunday. The Warriors competed in the three-day tournament against teams from North and South Carolina, and Georgia. Granard finished with a perfect 7-0 record against these teams. Returning players Quinshad Davis, Zac Smith, Ron Best and Keenen Littlejohn paced the Warriors' attack. Head coach Bobby Rodgers also praised the play of newcomers Russell Hughes, Dominique Wilkins and Kobe McDowell. "The kids gained valuable basketball knowledge at the camp," Rodgers said. "The conditioning and fundamental skills learned there will hopefully get us started towards a great season." Gaffney coach plans girls basketball clinic New Gaffney High girls basketball coach Stacey Parris will hold a free basketball clinic Saturday, June 30 from 2-4 p.m. Parris and the varsity girls staff will lead the clinic for girls between the ages of 7-14. Anyone interested in playing middle school, junior varsity or girls basketball is invited to work out. Blue Dolphins host swim meet Saturday The Cherokee County YMCA Blue Dolphins Swim Team will hold their last home swim meet Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Blue Dolphins are 15-1. "Several of our younger swimmers have really dropped their times this summer," assistant coach PeteWright said. "We invite people to come out and watch our swimmers in our final home meet this summer." |
