State's best head to sports complex

      Some of the top 11 and-12-year-old baseball players in the state will be traveling to Gaffney this week. Beginning Tuesday, the Cherokee County Youth Sports Complex will be the site of the Cal Ripken League all star state tournament for 11 and 12 year olds.

      Maybe Post 109 won't miss ace Justin Sarratt so much after all. Jordan Propst turned in another solid performance, striking out five and allowing just eight hits as visiting Post 109 beat Hillcrest, 13-3, on Saturday for its third straight win.

      Local golfers play in junior golf tourney Gaffney's Adam Goins finished 14th out of 19 with a 79-79-77 - 23 in the 13-14 age group at the South Carolina Junior Championship in Orangeburg last week. Gaffney's Matthew Hopper finished 15th out of 36 with a 75-76-68 -21 in the 15-18 age group.
