Michael Gaffney Day celebration set for Sept.29 The City of Gaffney will hold the annual Michael Gaffney Day Celebration at the Michael Gaffney Log Home on North Limestone Street in Historic Downtown Gaffney on Saturday, September 29, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This year's celebration will include bluegrass music, visits by local historians, old-fashioned games, early arts and crafts demonstrations and sales, artisans attired in period dress, food, and lots fun for all ages. Shirley Randolph, local resident known for her talent for decorating historic structures using all natural materials, will have the home and grounds dressed for autumn. Children and adults will be able to take part in old-fashioned games like hopscotch, checkers, dominos, and apple-peeling contests, and hear stories from local historians about Michael Gaffney, our early city, and Cherokee County. Jane Wilson, renowned basket maker, will be demonstrating her art. Ms. Wilson will also have her hand-made baskets for available for purchase. Other artists include Andy Cox, of Limestone College who will demonstrate handmade flutes and other items; Sara Dame Setzer, quilting; Cynthia Link, a well-known local artist who will be working with clay; artist Cindy Wilson, who will be making old-fashioned handkerchief dolls, artists Liz Welsh, Tedi Gibbons, and others. This is a great "home-grown" celebration for the whole family. We invite everyone to bring your lawn chair and join us as we honor the memory and celebrate the birthday of our city's founding father, Michael Gaffney, and enjoy a day of fun, music, demonstrations, games and history. Remember the date - Saturday, September 29, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., at the Michael Gaffney Log Home. Apple cider, peanuts, cookies, apples, popcorn, soft drinks, will be available for purchase. Weather, permitting, grilled hot dogs will be available at Noon. |
