Gaffney Middle

tramples Whitlock

Edward Bigby and Savon Dukes each had two rushing touchdowns and C.J. Miller added a rushing touchdown as Gaffney Middle blanked Whitlock, 38-0, last Thursday.

James Byers threw for a 2-point conversion. The Gaffney defense had two safeties.

Union nips

Gaffney ninth-grade

The Gaffney High ninth grade football team saw a second half comeback fall short Thursday in a 24-22 loss to Union County.

Steve Burris scored on a long run and Khris Brown scored on a punt return to spark the Indians rally. Torry Allen had an interception and a fumble recovery to lead Gaffney defensively.

"We trailed 18-8 at halftime. We came back and made a game out of it," Gaffney High ninth grade coach David Reams said.

beat Union

Joe Craig threw for a touchdown and ran for another to lead the Gaffney junior varsity football team to a 27-6 win over Union on Thursday.

Tim Dawkins had a touchdown reception and Kenard Lipscomb added a rushing TD.

Rice, McIntosh

have strong debuts

Former Gaffney High and South Carolina star Sidney Rice had two receptions for 10 yards in the Minnesota Vikings' season-opening win over the Falcons on Sunday.

Former Gaffney standout Rocky McIntosh had nine tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in Washington's win.

Steagall top

finisher for Indians

Austin Steagall was the top finisher for Gaffney at the Eye Opener cross country meet on Saturday. Steagall finished in a time of 20:25.

Caroline Gordon was the top finisher for the Gaffney girls team.
