Lizzie Tate Retired from Charlotte Memorial Hospital Lizzie Tate, 96, of 420 Peeler St., widow of Aaron Tate, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at 2 p.m. at her home. A native of Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Edd Tate and the late Mary Dowdle Tate, She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was retired from Charlotte (N.C.) Memorial Hospital. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by six brothers, five sisters and her son, Henry Louis Tate. Surviving are two sisters, Perniece Tate Gibbs and Georgia Tate Dukes (Robert), both of Gaffney; 15 grandchildren, one of them, Delphine, of Gaffney, was reared in the home; 29 greatgrandchildren, one of them, Barikia Tate, of Gaffney was reared in the home; and 26 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. and others officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family is at the residence, 420 Peeler St. Arrangements by Foster Funeral Home. Geraldine D. Dawkins Geraldine Dewberry Dawkins, 53, of 210 Hampton Ave., died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at 1:32 p.m. at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg. A native of Cowpens, she was the daughter of the late John Pittman Dewberry and the late Elsie Makupson Dewberry. She was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church, a 1972 graduate of B.E. Mayes High School and a former employee of Magnolia Manor. Surviving are a daughter, Tonita M. Littlejohn of the home; five sisters, Valiree Hunter of Cowpens, Nellie Sims of Gaffney, Alma Jean Dover of Cowpens, Cynthia Brockman, Deitra Whiteside and Jackie Posey of Spartanburg; four brothers, Charles Dewberry of Gaffney, John Earl Dewberry of Cowpens, Artis Dewberry of Cleveland, Ohio, and Clinton Dewberry of Gaffney; two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Island Creek Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. and others. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. The family is at the residence. Arrangements by Foster Funeral Home. |
