CHARLOTTE - Catherine H. Donkel, 83, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Mrs. Donkel was born Dec. 3, 1923, in Clifton, S.C., daughter of the late Lawrence Ray and Alpha Harris. She was a member of Westmoreland Baptist Church, the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, Sunshine Club and church choir and served on the History Committee. She was associated with Sears Roebuck, retiring after 16 years as a sales associate.

Surviving are a son, Jerry W. Donkel of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Melanie Donkel of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Pauline McSwain of Gaffney and Judy Teague of Laurens; two sisters-inlaw, Forene Harris of Pacolet and Wilma Ramsey of Gaffney; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Donkel was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Donkel, and five brothers, Sherman, Hershel, Harlan, James Ray and Jackie Lee Harris.

A service to celebrate her life will be held today at 2 p.m. at Westmoreland Baptist Church, 3205 Sam Wilson Road, conducted by the Rev. L. Todd Marlow. Interment will be in Elmwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
