Miss Phillips, Mr. Gold wed Sept. 8

Emily Claire Phillips and Jason Christopher Gold were united in marriage Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Grassy Pond Baptist Church. Dr. Roger Aycock officiated the 5 p.m. double ring ceremony.

A reception, hosted by the bride's parents, followed in the Family Life Center.

Music was provided by Laura Keller, pianist, and Mr. and Mrs Roy Price, harpist and violinist. Vocalists were Rhonda Hamrick and William Sarratt.

Escorted and given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown designed by Alvina Valenta. The strapless silk A-line gown featured a dropped waist bodice of Alencon lace and a ribbon sash accented with a rhinestone broach. Alvina Valenta's signature silkcovered buttons extended the length of the sweep train. Her cathedral veil of ivory sparkle tulle was designed by Jennifer Leigh. A similar short veil of sparkle tulle was worn at the reception.

Ashley Lauren Love of Greenville attended the bride as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Loren Lee Eubanks of Lyman, Katie Marie Gilfillan of Columbia, Anna Elizabeth Gold of Shelby, sister of the groom, Jamie Hamrick Harris of Atlanta, and Alice McCraw Wallace of Gaffney, cousin of the bride.

The attendants wore dresses designed by Jim Hjelm. The sage taffeta cocktail-length dresses featured a rouched v-neck bodice, full gathered skirt and contrasting celadon sash.

Amber Marie Wallace of Gaffney was junior bridesmaid and Emma Kate Gillespie of Lyman served as flower girl. Both are cousins of the bride.

The junior bridesmaid was attired in a sage taffeta v-neck dress featuring a ballgown skirt and celadon sash. The flower girl wore a celadon taffeta scoop-neck dress designed with a ballgown skirt enhanced with a sage sash.

James Howard Wallace of Gaffney, cousin of the bride, was the ring bearer.

The groom had his father as best man. Groomsmen were Bradon Joseph Bowling of Boiling Springs, N.C., Jonathan Howard Darnell of Mooresboro, Adam Neal Floyd of Charlotte, James Brandon Gold of Shelby, brother of the groom, Daniel Lane Phillips of Gaffney, brother of the bride. Clayton Andrew Phillips of Gaffney, cousin of the bride, was junior groomsman.

Ushers were Taylor Wayne Cook of Boiling Springs, S.C., Matthew Stephen Craig of Lincolnton, N.C., Daniel Lee Lydon of White Plains, Md., Matthew Brett Reel of Marion, N.C., and David Wesson Wise of Lincolnton, N.C.

Mr. and Mrs. Gold are making their home in Gaffney after a wedding trip to St. Simons Island.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Lane Phillips Jr. of Gaffney. Her grandparents are Gayle Sarratt Phillips of Gaffney, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Lane Phillips Sr. of Lyman and the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elliott Stroup. She earned a B.S. degree in business administration from University of South Carolina Upstate and is employed by Don L. Wilkins and Associates Inc.

Mr. Gold is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hoyle Gold of Shelby and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Emmitt Gettys of Hollis, N.C., and Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Hoyle Gold of Shelby. He earned a B.S. degree in business administration/ management and sports management from Limestone College and is employed by Cline's Modular Builders.

The guest register was attended by Charlee Fowler of Crouse, N.C., and Amber Hollifield of Shelby. Programs were distributed by Summer Ferraro and Angela Tomchik. Donna Gardner and Lynne Price were the wedding directors.

Prior to the ceremony, a number of showers and parties were given in honor of the engaged couple.

In June 24, a miscellaneous shower was hosted by Laura Hamrick, Jamie Harris, Teresa Hughey, Morgan Hughey, Cindy Love and Ashley Love at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation.

A miscellaneous shower was given by the women of Grassy Pond Baptist Church on Aug. 5.

The bride's aunts, Martha McCraw, Judy Stroup and Kim Stroup, hosted a miscellaneous at J. Michael's on Aug. 12.

On Aug. 19, a lawn and garden shower was hosted by the groom's aunts, Marilyn Powell, Dana Gettys, Donna Gettys, Brenda Whisnant, Susan Cole and Nancy Graham at Big Springs Baptist Church in Hollis, N.C.

A cookout honoring the bride and groom was given by the bride's parents at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Hughey on Aug. 25.

A bridesmaids' luncheon was held at the Piedmont Club in Spartanburg on Sept. 1. Hostesses were Elaine Sarratt, Martha Phillips and Julie Gillespie.

The bridal party was treated to a spa pedicure by Dee Randolph prior to the wedding .

On Sept. 7, the groom's parents hosted a seated rehearsal party dinner at Gerhard's Cafe in Spartanburg.
