Joe Hughes
Retired from U.S. Air Force and Michelin Tire Co.

Joseph Carroll (J.C.) Hughes, 71, of 448 S. Green River Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at his residence.

Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Betty Whelchel

Grace Shell Hughes. He was retired from the United States Air Force and also retired from Michelin Tire Company. Mr. Hughes was a Mason and Shriner and a member of High Point Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Donald C. Hughes and wife, Margaret, of Inman; three daughters, Lorraine Knowles of Cowpens, Theresa Turner and husband, Al, of Gaffney and Susan Hines of Roebuck; a brother, Garland Hughes of Gaffney; two sisters, Patricia Adams and Ponice Hyatt, both of Gaffney; 11 grandchildren, Frederick Knowles and wife, Amanda, Dawn Howell and husband, Clint, Blythe Hughes and wife, Courtney, Justin Hughes, Matthew Hughes, Davy Turner, Joey Turner, Amy Turner, Staci Hines, Steven Guy and Timothy Guy; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at High Point Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Clifford Phillips and Stuart Kersey. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
