County might delay company's tax break The new owner of the Cherokee Corporate Park might have to wait a little longer to receive a tax break on one of its buildings. Cherokee County Councilman Bailey Humphries said he will make another motion to delay the transfer of a tax incentive to the new owner of the corporate park's Romeo Rim building if Johnson Development balks at divulging whether it still has a financial stake in the park. Johnson Development sold the building to real estate holding company C.B. Richard Ellis last summer. But Humphries said it's unclear if Johnson Development still has a financial interest in the corporate park. Humphries added he's concerned the change of ownership is a way for Johnson Development to circumvent its agreement with the county. Under the agreement, Johnson Development would begin construction on a new spec building once a building was bought or leased. Council will consider third reading on the transfer during a meeting today. At its most recent meeting, council voted 4-3 to delay third reading. Cherokee County Development Board Director Jim Cook has said C.B. Richard Ellis has no ties to Johnson Development. He added Johnson Development is undergoing some major restructuring and has asked for patience in regard to its agreement with the county. |
