Young Lady Indians make strides in setback to York
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

York was too much for the inexperienced Gaffney Lady Indians on Friday.

The Lady Indians led by two points at halftime but York went on a spurt in the third quarter to take command en route to a 60-47 victory.

"We are very young," Gaffney first-year coach Stacey Parris said. "We just have a lot of 10thgraders."

Parris said the players need more time to develop their skills.

Breanna Watkins was a bright spot for the Lady Indians with three 3-pointers.

Parris also praised Tierra Phillips, who scored a team-high 13 points.

Parris said her first game as coach of the Lady Indians was special.

"It was a great game," she said. "We had a lot of support. I think the girls were ready to play. They just have to learn how to win."

Gaffney, 0-1, hosts Rock Hill on Tuesday.
