County council approves tax break The new owner of the Cherokee Corporate Park finally received a tax break on one of the buildings there. After delaying a vote on the measure at its previous meeting, Cherokee County Council on Monday approved the transfer of a tax incentive to R.T. Cherokee Park, which bought the building that houses the Romeo Rim manufacturing plant. Johnson Development sold the building to real estate holding and management company C.B. Richard Ellis last summer. Councilman Bailey Humphries persuaded council at its previous meeting to put off final reading over concerns that the change of ownership might void Johnson Development's agreement with the county. Under the agreement, Johnson Development would begin construction on a new spec building once a building was bought or leased. Attorney Tom Martin assured council the tax break transfer would not affect the county's agreement with Johnson Development. Cherokee County Development Board Director Jim Cook added he was told there are plans to develop more of the corporate park. |
