You can't put this one under the expect the unexpected file: Byrnes, Dorman and Gaffney had the most selections on the all-region team.

Class 4A Division I state and Region II-4A champion Byrnes placed 10 players on the team, while the region's second place team, Gaffney, and third-place team Dorman both had six players chosen.

Linebacker J.B. Shippy, the Indians' leading tackler, was joined by teammates Kevin Brockman, safety Johnny Woods, tight end David Dewberry, defensive lineman Levor Ross and center Joe Ben Frye.

Both Shippy and Brockman were also selected to the Shrine Bowl, while Woods and Dewberry will play in Saturday's North-South All-Star Game.

Shippy had an interception, while Brockman led the offensive line in pancake blocks.

After playing most of the season at quarterback, Dewberry was moved to tight end, where he had 11 catches for 159 yards.

Woods, known for his big-play ability, didn't disappoint with two interceptions and five forced fumbles.

Both Ross and Frye are two-year starters for the Indians.

Offensive lineman Robbie Peterson and junior running back Jeremiah Cochran were honorable mention selections.

Peterson battled back from a knee injury to have an impressive senior season and Cochran rushed for a team-high 12 touchdowns this season.

Byrnes first-year head coach Chris Miller, who replaced Bobby Bentley, was named as the region's best coach.
