Gaffney boys basketball coach Mark Huff and his team face their first road test of the season today at York.
The teams opened the season last Tuesday with the Indians earning a hard-fought 60-57 victory.
Huff knows the task will be just as tough or tougher this time.
"We'll be playing at their place, so it will be difficult," he said.
In the first matchup, the Indians shot a miserable 18 of 38 from the foul line and were outrebounded, 42-39.
Huff said that must change this time if the Indians are to secure a road win.
"We have to shoot our free throws better and do a better job on our defensive boards," he said. "We have to block out better."
The Indians will be playing without two of their best rebounders, David Dewberry and Johnny Woods, who will be participating in Saturday's North-South All-Star football game.
Huff said the team is still adjusting to seven new faces, who joined the team last week after the conclusion of the football season.
"It will just take a while to get our chemistry," he said. "It's just like if the football team played a game with about 30 new players. It just takes some time to learn to play together."
Last Tuesday, York rallied from a 13-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to make a game of it late.
York's Drew Harper hit a three-pointer and Courtney Love made back-to-back baskets to pull York within 59-54 with :35 left.
On Gaffney's next possession, Emison Hughes made one of two free throws to push the lead to four. After Love misfired on a three-pointer, Hughes left the door open for York with two misses at the foul line with :15 remaining.
The Cougars made a three-pointer with time winding down to close to 60-57, but left no time to put the Indians back on the foul line.
The Lady Indians will try to make it two wins in a row today. That game will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the boys' game slated to tip off at 8 p.m.
