Elaine Montgomery

Elaine Dawkins Montgomery, 56, of 125 Beltline Road, died Sunday at 6 p.m. at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A native of Cherokee County, Montgomery was the wife of Charles Montgomery and the daughter of the late Monroe and Ruth Dawkins. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and served as a deaconess, member of the mixed choir, young adult usher board, gospel unity choir, chairman of the Flower Committee, Bible school teacher, Y.W.A. member and financial secretary. She was last employed at Gaffney Manufacturing Company and was a graduate of Gaffney High School's Class of 1969.

Montgomery is survived by her son, Charles Allen Montgomery; three sisters, Mildred Williams of Flint, Mich., as well as Betty Dawkins and Elizabeth Jefferies of Gaffney; two brothers, Cornell Dawkins of Gaffney and Leonard Leon Dawkins of Blacksburg; and two granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as four sisters, Carolyn Adams, Eva Mae Edwards, Verdell Phillips and Bontee Davis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Revs. Freddy Davidson, Doris Mauney, Debra Jones, James Richards and Dr. A.L. Brackett officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. She will lie instate at 2 p.m. until the hour of service. Montgomery's nephews will serve as pall bearers.

The family will receive friends at the home of her nephew, Courtenay Dawkins at 217 Maple Dr.

Foster Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
