LETTERS Dear Editor: She first appeared in our neighborhood, a skinny long-legged black puppy, looking for a handout. She quickly made a hit with all the neighbors' kids and against my wife's advice I started feeding her, ran an ad in Lost and Found and when no results came through, took her to the vet to be spayed and checked over. Happy, as we named her, filled up and some four years later reached 107 pounds and became a favorite of the kids. She loved basketball, the sound of someone shooting hoops stopped what she was doing to join in. She was my walking partner, her favorite destination was the battleground up the highway. No one complained about her being loose, she mostly stayed close to home, had reached the point where she went into the fenced back yard for the night, went with me to get the paper and ran for awhile and then went back into the fence for the rest of the day, unless we were doing something outside. Tuesday morning she went with me to get the paper and take the trash can to the end of the driveway to be picked up. I went inside and that was the last time we saw her. There is an ad in Lost and Found in this paper, a notice inside Old Post Store near here, but no results. I checked the pound in case they might have had her and they said no. I was told sometimes deer hunters shoot dogs. If she was trespassing, she didn't know it. To shoot an obviously well-groomed, tagged pet is hard to believe but the fact is she is gone for no good reason. I MISSMYFRIEND. Joe Brown Gaffney, SC Gaffney Middle says thanks to supporters Dear Editor:
